GLENWOOD CITY — From ashes to well-planned and functional complex, the long awaited completion of the New Glenhaven Long Term Care and Rehabilitation Facility has been accomplished and a celebration is planned for this Friday, August 7th with an Open House to celebrate the Grand Opening.
The opening was set back by almost a year because of a fire back on January 14 of last year that destroyed most of the half completed structure. Since then workers have replaced and rebuilt the facility into one that will serve the needs of the community for years to come.
The celebration event on Friday is not only the Grand Opening of the new long-term care and rehabilitation facility of Glenhaven, but also the 55th anniversary of its opening back in February of 1960.
The new 49,000 square foot facility contains four households with eleven private rooms each, and each has a living room and dining areas and a sunroom with large windows so residents can view the landscape and the community.
Residents were moved into the new facility on April 21st and work began on remodeling the 1960 building into a Community-Based Residential Facility that will be called Grand Oaks. It will feature 16 apartments with many features.
Friday’s Grand Opening and 55th Anniversary Celebration will start for the public at 4:30 p.m. with a Grand Opening dedication and V.I.P. speeches. At 5:00 p.m. there will be prayer and a meal with live music and a social time scheduled at 6:30 p.m. A reception for the residents will be held from 3 to 4 p.m.
Fundraising activities are still going on with a group of local people that have taken on the goal of rising $700,000 to help fund the project. At present they have some $495,866 raised. If anyone wishes to contribute to this goal, they may do so at the open house on Friday. Members of the committee will be on hand to accept your donation.
A special section carried with this issue of the Tribune Press Reporter is dedicated to telling the story of Glenhaven from its first inception to the Grand Opening of the new facility.
