The Glenwood Area Historical Society is excited to announce the digitization of the Messenger, Glenwood City’s high school yearbook. Working in conjunction with Glenwood City High School and Oklahoma Correctional Industries, the GAHS has preserved all available yearbooks from 1908 on eight DVD discs which are available for purchase through the society.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to locate books for the years 1922, 1923, 1930, 1932 or 1933 but if we do, those can still be added to the collection.
The first Glenwood City High School Messenger, a 22-page yearbook in soft cover, was published in 1908. There is no evidence of subsequent yearbook publication until the year 1921 when publication was suspended during World War II. The 1947 edition of the Messenger contained the names of the graduates from the years 1943 through 1946. Yearbooks through 1950 featured advertising by area merchants, which add an interesting historical perspective to the books.
Our Messenger DVDs are being featured in a video display and offered for sale at the GAHS booth in the commercial building at the St. Croix County Fair. You can purchase a copy of your Messenger for $5 or get the entire set of eight DVDs for $30.
Order a copy online at the Glenwood Area Historical Society Facebook page or by mail: GAHS, P.O. Box 55, Glenwood City 54013. Provide us with the year of the Messenger you wish to order and include $3 for packaging and shipping.
