Although Wisconsin boasts one of the highest compliance rates for license plate registrations, the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) makes customers’ annual renewal even easier. With an eNotify (electronic notification) account, renewal reminders are sent via email/text or email and include direct links to DMV registration for easier, immediate plate renewal and no more lost reminder postcards or late fees.
A Wisconsin Department of Transportation study looked at how compliant Wisconsinites are with registering their license plates annually. The most likely reason car owners gave for not renewing their license plate is the owner “forgot.”
“Many people appreciate the convenience of being notified electronically when it’s time to renew their license plates instead of sifting through mail for the renewal postcard,” Amber Graff, motor vehicle program specialist said. “WisDOT created eNotify to streamline this routine paperwork and serve our customers.”
Once subscribed to the eNotify service, customers can receive their license plate renewal notices by email and have text reminders sent to their mobile devices. These texts and emails include a link to the online renewal application and payment options for added convenience.
Payment may be made using MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover credit or debit card, which will be charged a convenience fee. Another option is ACH (Automated Clearing House) which draws payment directly from a checking or savings account and has no convenience fee added.
Only the website www.wisconsindmv.gov is the official state website. Others with .org and .com are not official and may have extra charges for forms or list information that is dated or incorrect. In addition to the expanding services on its website, WisDOT connects with customers on Facebook and Twitter @WisconsinDOT.
