The Department of Natural Resources is seeking the public’s help with a case involving the illegal fatal shooting of an American Bald Eagle in St. Croix County.
On March 17, Conservation Warden Isaac Kruse of St. Croix County was alerted by a citizen of the discovery of a dead eagle about 60 yards off the road in the Town of Forest near the intersection of 290th Street and Highway 64. The male bird was found atop a pile of brush in a pool of blood.
The Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Madison confirmed the eagle was killed by a bullet. The bald eagle is managed in the state as a protected wild animal and also as a federally protected bird under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Shooting, pursuing, disturbing or any type of harming or agitating of an eagle is illegal.
If you have any information related to this crime, please call Warden Kruse at 715-531-7667, or call or text the DNR Hotline 1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367. Hotline callers/texters may remain anonymous.
