Cherry pie brings $550 at fair benefit

Anyone care for a piece of Cherry Pie directly from the St. Croix County Fairgrounds? As part of the annual May Fair Event and Sale, several home made pies are auctioned off, as are many other donated items. The annual event was held on Saturday afternoon at the fairgrounds in Glenwood City.

This is a fundraiser for the Friends of the St. Croix County Fairgrounds and the money raised this year is to help the fair retire the debt on dairy barn number two and begin funding of the first horse barn.

A $550.00 Cherry pie was baked by Beverly Mitchell of New Richmond and after a bidding war, her husband, Terry, took home the pie.

Another pie, also a cherry pie baked by Mitchell, brought some $350.00 for the event and was purchased by Chris Peterson of Baldwin. Her ten pies brought in $2,190.

Proceeds from the event totaled more than $20,000. The next event planned by the Friends of the St. Croix County fair is the annual rodeo, which is set for Father’s Day weekend with rodeo action on Friday and Saturday.
