Students from both Boyceville High School and Glenwood City High School recently attended the state leadership conference for FCCLA held at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells April 13th-April 15th. While at the conference the students competed in STAR Events and elected their new state officers. STAR Events stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition.
Two students from Boyceville attended the conference, Afton Fischer, who received a silver medal for her presentation on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Sammi Merkel who, received a gold medal for her presentation on technology and education. Sammi was also among the top two state participants in her category which qualified her for nationals later this year.
Three members represented the Glenwood City School District at the 2015 State FCCLA Conference, Catherine Schurtz, Alyssa Jones and Emma Scholler. Alyssa and Catherine presented their topic on domestic violence in the Illustrated Talk category, which earned them a Silver Medal. While at the conference Emma helped to select the new state leadership as a voting delegate.
The members from both schools also attended various sessions that provided information on how to improve themselves, their club, their community, and their school. All five representative from both schools made new friends and had a lot of fun through this experience.
