Boyceville HS & MS Science Olympiad earn regional runner-up team awards
MENOMONIE – Boyceville’s High School Science Olympiad team finished as the Science Olympiad West Regional Runner-Up team last Saturday, earning medals in 22 events and scoring 46 team points.
Regional championship gold medals were earned by senior Nolan Windsor and junior Andrew Marshall in Mission Possible, Andrew Marshall and sophomore Max Engel in Scrambler, Max Engel and junior Luke Timper in Astronomy, junior Wyatt Swenson and Max Engel in both Bridge Building and Wright Stuff, and freshmen Rian Corr and Emmett Kapsner in Air Trajectory.
Regional runner-up silver medals were earned by senior Hannah Jerrie and junior Maddy Bygd in both Anatomy & Physiology and Disease Detectives, Maddy Bygd and junior Brandon Windsor in Invasives, Andrew Marshall and Wyatt Swenson in Geocaching, Brandon Windsor and freshman Jason Swanepoel in GeoLogic Mapping, Luke Timper and Wyatt Swenson in Compound Machines, Brandon Windsor and junior Samantha Merkel in Food Science, Hannah Jerrie and Nolan Windsor in Forensics, Maddy Bygd, Samantha Merkel, and junior Peyton Hellmann in Protein Modeling, Andrew Marshall and Max Engel in Air Trajectory, Andrew Marshall, Luke Timper, and Hannah Jerrie in Code Busters, Wyatt Swenson and Max Engel in Bungee Drop, and seniors Rachal Anderson and Megan Bird in Wright Stuff.
Bronze medals were earned by Jason Swanepoel and Luke Timper in Fossils, Andrew Marshall nad Luke Timper in Its About Time, Samantha Merkel, Maddy Bygd, and Peyton Hellmann in Experimental Design, Peyton Hellmann and Wyatt Swenson in Mystery Design, junior Carolyn Voelker in Protein Modeling, Rian Corr and Emmett Kapsner in Wright Stuff, and freshmen Brennan Wheeldon and Sean Best in Bungee Drop.
A fourth place medal was earned by Nolan Windsor and Jason Swanepoel in Entomology.
“I am really proud of how hard our kids have worked and how well we represented Boyceville on Saturday” said Boyceville Science Olympiad Head Coach Andy Hamm. “Our kids have come a long ways since graduating nearly half of last year’s 3rd place team at state and I couldn’t be more proud of the team. It will be fun to see where things go in the next month in preparation for the state tournament at UW-Milwaukee.”
Boyceville would also like to extend a congratulations and thank you to Menomonie High School for hosting the 2015 West Regional Science Olympiad Tournament. Boyceville Science Olympiad is coached by Andy Hamm and Steve Duerst.
