The Glenwood City boys basketball team had a contest at last Monday against the Spring Valley Cardinals that ended in a 46-40 win.

The Topper team started off solid with 15 points scored to the Cardinals’ 11 with a three from Nick Schone, Kip Wallace and Todd Petersen. Petersen also had a double to start the game and Marcus Kadinger and Jake Hierlmeier did as well.

Their lead decreased to three points in the second quarter with 11 total points scored against the Cardinals’ 12.

Hierlmeier drove in a double and then knocked down a three for five points and Kadinger, Petersen and Joel Ormson contributed a double each for a 26-23 lead at the half time break.

Out of the break, the Toppers played their best offensive ball with 16 points posted to the Cardinal’s seven, which gave them a ten point lead.

Kadinger carried the ball and drove in hard with three doubles for his Topper team. Schone followed in points scored with a double of his own and a three pointer. Wallace hit his second three and Petersen had a basket for two.

The Toppers finished the game with one shot made from inside by Hierlmeier and then Schone and Petersen each made a free throw.

All together they had 13 doubles, six triples and finished with two free throws made out of nine.

Scone and Hierlmeier followed with nine points a piece. Schone had one double, two triples and the one free throw. Hierlmeier had three doubles and one triple.
