Terror in the Glen runners raise over $3,000 for scholarships

GLENWOOD CITY — The second annual Terror in the Glen – Trail run, took place on Saturday, October 18th.

The event was hosted at the Glen Hills County Park and offered a variety of distances to challenge runners’ abilities throughout the event. Offered were a 5K, 10K and ½ marathon trail run and a ½ mile kids run. The 5K was the easiest route, family orientated with well-groomed grassy trails winding around the mature prairie.

The 10K started with the grassy mowed trails, but soon entered into a single track route through the woods and around the lake with some challenging topography.

The ½ marathon is simply two loops of the 10K. It was a very beautiful day for a run that offered wonderful scenic views and vistas for runners to pause and take in the fall beauty.

The trail run was designed around a Halloween theme and a number of runners dressed up for the occasion.

Photos of the event can be found under the St. Croix County Parks webpage at scroll on the right hand column and select “Terror in the Glen” once on the Terror in the Glen page, view photos from the 2014 event.

The trail run brought in approximately 173 participants to the Glenwood area. Most runners came from an area within a 75 mile radius of the Glen Hills Park. The marketing area of focus was the Twin Cities metro area to Eau Claire.

All proceeds of the event went towards the academic and scholarship program at the Glenwood City High School: the Topper Partnership Foundation.

The event raised $3,264.85 and that money was presented to the Board of Education on Monday, January 12.

This was a very slight decrease from last year as the total was 180 participants, which brought in a donation value of $5,632.22 to the school.

The County is excited to announced that a date has already been set for The Terror in the Glen – Trail run for 2015 and that will be held on Saturday, October 17.
