BOYCEVILLE — The Boyceville girls basketball team enters the 2014-15 season with seven returning letter winners and 17 athletes overall on their roster.

The Lady Bulldogs will be led on the court by seniors and starters Abbey Bird, Alexa Peterson and Shyanne Marlett.

The three seniors along with sophomores Morgan Kuhn, Madysn Riek, Cassie Malean and junior Jenna Beyrer were all letter winners last season.

Bird ended her junior year as the First Team All-Conference recipient and April Lake received the second team honor.

Lake along with Kennedy Hellmann were the sole players to graduate from the team.

Returning to the team are juniors Peyton Hellmann, Marki Lagerstrom and Katie Kegen as well as sophomores Brooklyn Hellmann, Emma Harnisch, Carlee Schultz and Brooklyn Booth.

They each look to fill in the shoes of the two gone to graduation with more varsity minutes under the shoes.

New to the team this year are freshmen Marissa Dormanen, Kyle Krueger and Rylie Andrews.

“We are looking to be competitive with every team we face,” said head coach Jolene Bird. “As with every season, we are working for a conference championship and a good run in the tournament.”

Bird is entering her 18th year as head coach for the Lady Bulldogs with a record of 245-136. She will be assisted by Tom Turchany.

The Bulldogs finished 12-11 last season with a two-game run in the Regional tournament before losing to Colfax.

The Bulldogs will face off against Colfax for their first Dunn-St.Croix Conference game of the season, which will be held at home this coming Tuesday, November 25 at 7:30 p.m.

They will play a game prior, which is scheduled for this Friday, November 21 at home against Regis at 7:30 p.m. as well.
