By Kelsie Hoitomt

BOYCEVILLE — For the first time in school history, the Glenwood City School District will be sending a girls’ cross country team to State.

The excitement rang through town Saturday afternoon as the cross country team hollered and shouted out the bus windows as they drove down Main Street followed by a line of honking cars.

The weather could not have been more perfect for a Sectional meet as the sun was shining and the temperature was near 65 degrees.

There was a slight breeze, but that never haltered the Lady Toppers as they finished with three runners in the top ten and the final four ran within the top 60.

It was Taylor Drinkman out front in the lead for her team with a run time of 20:54.4, which put her in second place out of 91 runners.

Taylor ran behind Fall Creek senior, Emily Jaeger who finished with a 20:36.2.

Crossing the finish line at 21:08.7 was Morgan Kadinger for fourth place and then Makayla O’Brien followed in six with a time of 21:21.8 to round out the top ten.

Senior Kaitlin Konder ran as the fourth runner for the team and was 16th overall with a time of 22:08.7.

Freshman Elizabeth Wink completed the course in 22:56.0 for 27th place.

Following her in sixth and seventh place and 43rd and 58th overall were Macie Rasmussen and Emma Scholler. Macie ran a 24:20.8 and Emma had a 25:18.7.

Only the top five scores were recorded, which resulted in a team total of 55 points for the Lady Toppers and a first place finish.

Second was Fall Creek with 74 and they will also be advancing to State as a team. Eau Claire Regis followed with a close third place finish with a score of 77.

The boys’ team competed, but did not have any individuals advance to the State meet. As a team, they finished tenth out of 16 with a score of 230.

McDonell Central placed first with a 68 and Immanuel Lutheran was second with 86.

Junior Matthew Wink led the team this race with an time of 18:59.6 for 29th place.

First place went to Aidan Manley of Spring Valley with a 16:53.0.

Riley Schutz was the number two runner for the Toppers and 29th overall with a time of 19:12.3. Following him was Jack Kremer in 46th with a 19:43.0.

In fourth for the team and 61st overall was Andrew Bauman with a 20:08.5 and then Owen Wagner followed in 69th with a 20:26.3.

Rounding out the team of seven was Corey Klatt in 73rd (20:41.4) and Matthew Bauman in 80th with a 20:59.2.
