Lady Toppers place first in small schools division at Rice Lake

RICE LAKE – Out of 15 total schools, it was the Glenwood City girls’ cross country team that dominated the 5K course at WITC-Rice Lake.

Taylor Drinkman, Makayla O’Brien, Morgan Kadinger, Elizabeth Wink, Ally Holmquist, Macie Rasmussen and Emma Scholler all placed inside the top 60 for a team score of 90 points.

The closest to them was St. Croix Falls with 131 points.

Drinkman led the team with a time of 20:43.9, which put her in second place overall against 102 other runners. Cora Bruxvoort of Bloomer was the race winner with a time of 19:48.6.

O’Brien crossed the finish line next for the girls with a time of 22:23.9 for 13th place. Then it was Kadinger almost 11 seconds back in 15th with a 22:34.0.

There was about a minute break before Wink hit the finish in 33rd place with a time of 24:24.0. Following her in fifth and sixth for the team and 40th and 41st overall were Holmquist (24:56.6) and Rasmussen (24:58.5).

And last but not least, the anchor for the team was Scholler in 59th place overall with a time of 26:19.7.

The boys’ team also competed and they finished in tenth place out of the 15 schools with a total of 232 points. First went to Unity with 78 points.

Riley Schutz was the first to hit the finish line and cheer for this teammates after running a time of 19:11.2, which put him in 27th overall out of 109 runners.

Jordan Bringgold, who has been consistently running at the top for St. Croix Central was first with a time of 16.44.9.

Following Schutz was Jack Kremer in 37th with a time of 19:39.2.

The two are showing consistent improvement so far this season as this is the first time they have ran under the 20 minute mark.

Running in third and fourth for the team were Matthew Wink and Owen Wagner. Wink was 47th with a 20:13.0 and Wagner finished 53rd with a 20:24.7.

And wrapping up the team of seven was Andrew Bauman in 75th (21:46.9), Matthew Bauman in 81st (22:16.1) and Corey Klatt in 92nd with a 23:10.3.

The Toppers had a break in competition and then were back on Tuesday (September 23) for a meet in Barron.

They will then compete after school in Spring Valley on Thursday, October 3 starting at 4:30 p.m.
