Lady Bulldogs paw down Toppers and Buffaloes to start conference play

BOYCEVILLE – The Boyceville volleyball team had their first Dunn-St. Croix Conference show down last Tuesday with a home match against Glenwood City.

They then hit the road to Mondovi on Thursday, September 18 and both nights ended in success.

A week prior to their conference match against Glenwood City, the Bulldogs went 2-0 against them and they continued their winning streak with a three set victory of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-19 on Tuesday.

Statistics on the night were Lexi Peterson with 16 assists, Abbey Bird with seven digs and Madysn Riek with six service aces.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs started off on the wrong foot, which led to a Buffalo win of 25-17.

The loss woke the Lady Dogs out of their slumber and they bounced back to win their second set 25-22.

The two teams battle back and forth with many long volleys for the tie-breaker in the third set. The outcome ended in another Bulldog victory of 25-21 to put them up 2-1.

The Bulldogs had to hold the lead over Mondovi in the fourth set in order to end the match in their favor.

They battled again and won their fourth set 25-21 for their second straight conference win of the week.

Stats on the night against Mondovi had Bird and McKenzie Schultz leading in kills with seven each. Erica Sempf had four kills, Cassie Malean had three and Riek had one.

Riek also had two solo blocks and one assisted block as well as three digs. Sempf finished with one solo block and one assisted block.

Schultz provided two assisted blocks and two digs. Malean had two services aces and seven digs and Marki Lagerstrom one the other ace for the team and seven digs herself.
