MADISON – Rep. John Murtha (R-Baldwin) was named Legislator of the Year by the Wisconsin Public Health Association for his dedication to improving workplace wellness in businesses across the state.
Over five years ago, Rep. Murtha first introduced legislation to create a workplace wellness tax credit for businesses in Wisconsin. Through years of hard work and perseverance, the bipartisan bill passed through the legislature in March and the Healthy Jobs Act became law.
“I am very proud to receive this award,” said Rep. Murtha. “In our current economic state, health care costs are constantly on the rise, putting a large burden on small business across the state. The Healthy Jobs Act will ease the burden for local businesses, improving employee’s health, and decreasing costs for years to come.”
2014 Wisconsin Act 137 creates a grant program available to businesses with 50 or fewer employees. The business would be eligible to receive a grant up to 30 percent of the program’s implementation cost.
In addition, Rep. Murtha also recently received the prestigious Working for Wisconsin Award for his consistent work to help improve the state’s business climate. He had the great honor of accepting this award at OEM Fabricators in Woodville.
