Benefit for Amy Kahler to be held at GC Fire Station on August 23
GLENWOOD CITY – A benefit is being held for Amy (Caress) Kahler on Saturday, August 23 at the Glenwood City Fire Station with events starting at 9:00 a.m. that morning.
Amy, mother of two, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, which led to rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy.
Despite the preventative efforts, the cancer spread to her hip bone, which led to additional radiation and medication treatments.
The unexpected happened in March of this year, a metastatic brain tumor that was causing severe hemorrhaging was discovered and Amy was sent into emergency surgery.
Amy is a true miracle, with her strength, courage and faith, she survived and recovered at a rate that even flabbergasted doctors.
After five weeks of hospitalization, she was discharged from Regions and now continues to received rehabilitation therapy and treatment from home.
The benefit to help Amy will start at 9:00 a.m. with a 5K run and then at 10:00 a.m. a Family Fun Run will start; registration for both begins at 8:00 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Curry–Ainsworth American Legion Post #168.
Then from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. there will be an ongoing raffle and silent auction with kids activities available as well as food, drinks and music.
Brothers Country Mart in Downing is also donating a portion of pizza sales this Thursday and Friday, August 21 and 22 to Team Amy. $1 from every Brothers 12” frozen sausage or pepperoni pizza purchased during those two days will be donated to the benefit.
