Older folks with new computers are apt targets for cyber-thieves. One trick they use is to send you an email telling you that you need to update your banking information, says the Association of Mature American Citizens.
They tell you to click your way to a Web site where you’ll be asked to allegedly “re-enter” data such as account numbers, social security numbers, etc. What they are really doing is coaxing you to provide private information they can use for a variety of nefarious purposes, AMAC says. Be aware that your bank and legitimate online retailers would never use email to ask for data.
