Chief Deputy Severson announces her write-in candidacy for St. Croix County Clerk of Court

Kristi Severson has been serving St Croix County through the Clerk of Court office since 1994.   She made the decision to run for Clerk after long-time incumbent Lori Meyer accepted the Court Administrator position in Anoka County, Minnesota.

Severson began her career in the department as a deputy clerk processing hundreds of child support payments each day.  In 2000, she was assigned to the very demanding traffic division which handles thousands of court cases each year and was subsequently promoted to Financial Assistant.  Citing her effective and efficient leadership and management skills, Clerk of Court incumbent Lori Meyer appointed Severson to Chief Deputy in 2003. Through many different roles and responsibilities, Severson gained an in-depth understanding of the Clerk of Court office.

As Chief Deputy, Kristi Severson is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Clerk of Court office including hiring and training staff, updating and implementing department policies and procedures and serving as liaison between her staff, the judges, other county departments, outside agencies and the general public.  She is the court’s network administrator and the go-to person for all CCAP software questions.  It is her duty to act as and fulfill the obligations of the elected Clerk of Court in her absence.  In partnership with her hard-working staff Severson has streamlined many of the Clerk of Court functions as they move towards a paperless environment.

Community service has always been top priority for Kristi Severson.  As a long time resident of Cylon Township, she has been a Deer Park First Responder since 1989 and a member of the St. Croix County Safety and Security Committee since 2002.

Twenty plus years of experience and an excellent knowledge of the inner workings of the court system have helped Severson earn the respect of the St. Croix County judges who appointed her to complete Ms. Meyer’s current term as Clerk of Court.

Severson is hopeful that her proven loyalty and continuing dedication to her staff, the courts, and all residents of St. Croix County will persuade voters to write her name in as democratic candidate for Clerk of Court on August 12, 2014.
