MINNESOTA – For those who commute from the area to across the St. Croix River into Minnesota, be aware of your speed as a new law will take affect on Friday that has the speed limit now posted at 45 mph in a construction zone.
If caught speeding, a minimum of a $300 fine can be written.
On average, there are 1,700 accidents reported yearly in Minnesota with roughly 30 of those resulting in a fatality.
There are certain criteria to the law as well that states it goes into effect only when construction workers are present and when here has been at least a 24 hour notice of a construction zone being set up, for example.
This new law also requires MN-DOT to study two lane highways over the next five years and consider raising the speed limit from 55 mph to 60.
