Hilltoppers finish first at Regional golf outing

LUCK – The Glenwood City golf team was in Luck last Tuesday, May 27 for the Regional outing that was held at the 18-hole, par 71 Luck Golf Course.

The day ended perfectly for the Toppers as they placed first against eight other schools with a team score of 333.

Grantsburg was in second with a 355, Unity followed with a 380 and Spring Valley was fourth with a 410; the top four teams move onto the Sectional.

Senior Nick Mrdutt finished the day a top the leader board after shooting an 18-hole round of 77 with a 36 on the front nine and a 41 on the back.

Jake Hierlmeier placed second behind Jordan Knutson of Grantsburg with a total of 83. Then it was Nathan Mrdutt in fourth place with an 86 and Garrett Schemionek placed sixth with an 87. Jordan Hill rounded out the team with a total of 103, which put him in a three-way tie for 20th.

Nick earned the top spot after shooting par on the first two holes. He then bogeyed three, pared four and five and then birdied six. He finished the front with a bogey on seven and par on eight and nine.

On the back nine, he went bogey to start on ten and 11. then was par on 12, 13 and 14 before shooting two over on 15. He then shot par on 16, double bogeyed 17 and finished with par on 18, which was a five stroke hole.

Hierlmeier finished second for the team after he shot a 42 on the first nine. He double bogeyed hole one and bogeyed two and three, then double bogeyed four and bogeyed five before birding hole six. He found his groove and shot par on seven and eight and then was one over on hole nine.

On the back nine, he finished with a 41 after going par on ten and 11, then bogey on 12, 13, 14 and 15. He was par on 16 and then bogeyed 17 before finishing with a par on 18.

Nathan was next with his total of 86. He shot a 45 of the front nine with a bogey on one, double bogey on two, bogey on three and four and four, then a par on six, double bogey on seven, par on eight and another double bogey on nine.

He finished with a 41 after shooting bogey on ten then he shot par on 11, 12 and 13 before hitting a birdie on 14. He bogeyed 15 and 16, double bogeyed 17 and finished with a bogey on 18.

Schemionek was one stroke behind with an 87 after shooting a 43 on the front nine and a 44 on the back. He shot par on hole one, the bogeyed two and was par on three and four. He then double bogeyed five, bogeyed six, seven and eight and double bogeyed nine.

To finish, he was bogey on ten, par on 11-13, then he birdied 14, bogeyed 15 and 16, double bogeyed 17 and bogeyed 18.

Hill hit fifth for the team and finished with a 55 on the front nine and a 48 on the back. He was three over on hole one, then double bogeyed two, three and four before bogeying five. He finished with a double bogey on six, three over on seven, double bogey on eight and three over again on nine.

On the final nine he shot bogey on ten, then was par on 11. He bogeyed 12 and 13 and then double bogeyed 14, was three over on 15, bogeyed 16 and 17 and then finished two strokes over on 18.

The Toppers were at the Lake Wissota Golf Course on Tuesday, June 3 for the Sectional meet. The top two teams will advance to the state meet that is scheduled for June 9 and 10 in Madison.
