Boyceville track and field wraps up regular season with meet at home

The Bulldogs’ track and field team wrapped up their regular season of competition this past week with a meet in Mondovi on Tuesday, May 13 and then they hosted their own on Thursday.

In Mondovi, the girls’ team finished in seventh place with 41 points against ten total teams. The boys’ team came in ninth overall with 35 points.

On the track, Ian Kane had the best finish for the boys’ team. He placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.12.

Tanner Johnson-Hetchler fell a bit behind from his usually top place finish in the 1600 meter as he ended in seventh with a 4:54.83. He bumped up a few places in the 3200 meter with a fifth place finish by a time of 10:32.92.

Senior Bryor Hellmann finished in the top ten in the hurdles with his best performance in the 300 meter as he placed fifth with a 46.36. He finished in seventh in the 110 meter with a time of 18.20.

In the girls’ hurdles, Sandra Knorr placed in the top ten also in eighth after a time of 56.21 in the 300 meter distance.

Abbey Bird finished towards the top in the 1600 meter with a third place after her time of 5:55.36. She also finished in the top ten in the 400 meter dash with a 1:12.16 for tenth place.

In the field, Logan McAbee-Thomas finished at the top for the boys’ team in his coveted triple jump. He stretched out to 41’ 1” for third place.

Caleb Arndt also hit the top ten in the discus throw for the boys’ team. He placed ninth after throwing a distance of 108’ 5”.

Tyler Krueger placed a spot higher with an eighth place in the pole vault with a jump of 9’ 0”.

Danielle Nelson had the high spot on the girls’ team in the field events after her performance in the pole vault. She cleared 7’ 6” for first place. Brooklyn Booth was not far behind in third place with a 6’ 6”.

Cassie Malean also took a spot towards the top with a third place finish in the high jump from her height of 4’ 10”. Teammate Ireland McAbee-Thomas was two places behind in fifth with a 4’ 8”.

Home Invitational 

The Bulldogs hosted the Dunn-St. Croix/Lakeland Conference showdown last Thursday, May 15, which saw the girls’ team place fifth and the boys’ took sixth out of eight total teams.

On the track, Abbey Bird led the girls’ team in highest points scored in a event after she placed first in the 1600 m run with a time of 5:54.56.

Cassie Malean earned the team eight points after she finished in second place in the 100 meter dash with a 13.72.

In the field, Malean had a huge day in the high jump with a height of 5’ 2” for first place, which is near the school record also.

As for the boys’ team, Johnson-Hetchler had a solid day on the track with a first place finish in both the 1600 meter and the 3200 meter. He ran a 4:50.36 and a 10:31.22 to take the top honors.

In the field, Logan McAbee-Thomas led the team as he placed second in the long jump and triple jump behind his rival, Zac Webster of Spring Valley. He reach 19’ 3.75 in the long jump and 40’ 5.5” in the triple jump.

The Bulldogs were back on the track to compete in the Conference Invitational on Tuesday (May 20).

Next will be the Regional, which they host on Tuesday, May 27 and then the Sectional is set for Friday, May 30 in Colfax.
