The Lady Bulldogs faced off against the number one team in the conference last Tuesday, the Elk Mound Mounders and they were defeated 10-5.
They were scheduled to play again on Thursday, but due to rain all day, the contest was postponed to Friday. The weather did not cooperate and Friday’s game against Spring Valley was postponed as well as Monday’s game in Elmwood.
Bulldogs beat by Mounders
The Elk Mound Mounders remained the number one team in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference after beating the Bulldogs 10-5 at home.
The Bulldogs were down 0-1 in the first inning, but they took a short lead at the top of the third after scoring three runs.
With Lexi Peterson and Brooklynn Blaser already on base, Kennedy Hellmann stepped up to the plate and knocked one to the outfield, which brought both of her teammates across home plate.
Hellmann then herself hit home after an RBI hit by Madysn Riek, which scored the Bulldogs third and final run of the inning.
The Mounders tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third with their top two hitters, Makenna Borofka and Lexi Delong, scoring.
Maddy Bygd then scored in the fourth, which gave the Bulldogs a lead for an entire inning due to the Mounders going run-less in the bottom inning.
The Mounders recovered a lead in the fifth however after scoring four runs against the Bulldog’s one.
Elk Mound finalized the win after the Bulldogs were unable to recover any runs at the top of the sixth and they pushed three additional past home at the bottom of the inning for the 10-5 score.
Peterson led the Bulldogs in runs with two. Hellmann, Blaser and Bygd followed with one run each.
Hellmann also led the Bulldogs on the pitching mound. She had one strikeout and just one walk, but allowed the ten runs and 11 hits.
Dayna Kotecki was the Mounder’s pitcher. She had seven strikeouts and allowed three walks, seven hits and the five runs.
On the schedule, the Bulldogs currently have a game against Spring Valley and Elmwood/Plum City to make up.
They were scheduled to play against Pepin/Alma on Tuesday (April 29) if the weather allowed and then another contest on Thursday (May 1) in Glenwood City.
They are set to wrap up the week with a make-up game against Spring Valley on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
