GC golf team wins first meet of the year

The Glenwood City golf team participated in their first conference meet of the year, which was held at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax last Tuesday, April 15.

The Toppers were then finally able to host a meet on their home course on Monday after it had been reschedule due to wet conditions.

First invite of the year

The Toppers had a perfect day at the Whitetail Golf Course, taking first place against five other teams with a total of 169 strokes; Mondovi placed second with 191.

Jake Hierlmeier golfed a 41 for nine team points, which put him in second place behind Jonah Tczap of St. Croix Central who finished with a 40.

Jake started off with a par on hole one and two and then bogeyed three, four, five and six before breaking even on hole seven, which was a par 3. He finished with a bogey on hole eight and par on the ninth.

Teammate Nathan Mrdutt followed in line behind Hierlmeier with a 42 for seven points. He bogeyed the first hole but birdied two, which was a par 3. He then shot par on three, bogeyed four through nine.

Garrett Schemionek and Nick Mrdutt each had a 43 for six points.

Schemionek was par on hole one and then he fell behind on hole two with a triple bogey. He caught back up with a bogey on three and par on four. He double bogeyed five, shot par on six, bogeyed seven, got par on eight and bogeyed nine.

Nick Mrdutt bogeyed holes one and two and then shot par on three before getting a double bogey on four and a bogey on five and six. He shot par on seven and eight and then finished with one stroke over on hole nine.

Jordan Hill rounded out the five man team with a score of 49. He triple bogeyed hole one, then came back with just one stroke over on hole two and three. He double bogeyed holes four, five and six and then bogeyed holes seven and eight before shooting par on hole nine.

Home invitational

Despite the windy conditions, the Toppers were flawless as a team for the second time in a week with a total of 172 strokes hit. The closest was Mondovi with a 192.

Hierlmeier placed first this time around with a total of ten points being awarded to him for his 40 stroke finish. Following him was Hayden Ford in second with a round of 44 in nine holes.

Jake shot par on hole one, bogeyed hole two and three, but recovered and was par on holes four through eight and then double bogeyed hole nine.

Nick Mrdutt was player one for the team and he shot a 44 and so did Schemionek and Nathan Mrdutt who were players three and four.

Hill rounded out the team as the fifth player and he finished the nine hole invitational with a 55.

The Toppers were again in competition mode on Tuesday (April 22) with a road trip to Mondovi. They will be back in action again on Tuesday, April 29 with a meet in Spring Valley. Both are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
