The St. Croix Valley Genealogical Society will meet on April 17 at the River Falls Pulbic LIbrary in the main floor meeting room at 7:00 p.m. The speaker, Jim Neuenfeldt, will cover travelling in Poland, what to bring, arranging for guides, research in Poland, and websites to help with genealogy research and travel in Poland.
Jim Neuenfeldt is the current chairperson for the Pommern Regional Group of Minnesota (PRG) the PRG liaison to the Germanic Genealogy Society, member of the Polish Genealogy Society (PGS) and a member of the Polish American Cultural Institute of Minnesota (PACIM). He is a volunteer instructor for WIESCO and has instructed at their English Language Camp in Torun Poland for the past five years. In 2012, Jim, along with three other instructors, received the Distinguished Silver Medal, Unitas Durat Palatinatus Cuiaviano-Pomeraniensis, an award from the Marshall (similar to Governor of a state) of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship in Poland for recognition of long-term cooperation and contributions to the development of contacts between Poland and the United States and in gratitude for the organization of educational activities for young people in Kujawy and Pomeorze.
Jim has traveled throughout Poland on his own, with the WIESCO Group, with guides, and with friends. Through his travels he has made numerous contacts and friends which has helped him with his genealogical and historical research. Jim has given several presentations to the Pommern Regional Group and the Polish Genealogy Society regarding the history of Pomerania (this region is now in northern Poland).
