Kirstan Keppen a Gymnastics State Champion

On March 15, 2014, Kirstan Keppen, a fourth grader at Turtle Lake, won the All-Around title at the Midwest Amateur Gymnastics Association (MAGA), Division II Team Championships in the Novice (those born after January 1, 2003) Division. She finished first All -Around at 7 meets this competition season. The MAGA has teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa and South Dakota.

Following the regular 9 meet season, only the top 80 teams of 144 in MAGA qualify for the Team Championships; Kirstan’s team was 10th, qualifying them to compete in Division 2.

Practicing four to five nights per week, year-round, for nearly seven years, has paid off for one gymnast.

Kirstan capped off her gymnastics season with an Individual All-Around State Championship title on March 22 at the MAGA (Midwest Amateur Gymnastics Association) Championships held in Faribault, Minnesota.

Keppen earned the spot as a top-ranked qualifier in the novice division for the MAGA Individual State Meet in Faribault after her team finished 2nd at the State Team Meet on March 15th. Kirstan was the Novice State Champion in Division 2.

In order to participate in the MAGA (Midwest Amateur Gymnastics Association) State Individual Competition, gymnasts had to qualify as one of the top 12 in either the All-Around or one of the individual events. Keppen was a qualifier in the All-Around competition, participating in all events (vault, floor, bars, and beam).

After finishing 1st on the vault, 2nd on bars, and 2nd on beam, Keppen secured a 1st place finish overall in the All-Around category naming her the 2014 All-Around Novice Champion.

Kirstan competes for Premier Complex Gymnastics in Clear Lake, WI under coach and gym owner, Dianne Dietrich. Kirstan is the daughter of Brian and Jolene Keppen of Turtle Lake and the granddaughter of Fred and Illa Nitchey of Glenwood City.
