BOYCEVILLE – Two seniors, five juniors, four sophomores and five freshmen make up the 2014 Boyceville baseball team under the direction of head coach Tim Engel.
Leading the team as the sole seniors are Jordan Kuhn and Nick Wathke. Kuhn is a four year starter and a second team all-conference award recipient. Wathke is a two year starter and has been one of the top hitters in the conference with a .452 average.
Also adding experience to the team are juniors Nolan Windsor, Alex Lovett, Brett Boda, Tyler Stroo and Jake McIntyre as well as sophomores Andrew Marshall, Sam Hellmann, Hunter Anderson and Jack Kapsner.
“Boda had a great season last year and we look forward to him filling in where needed on defense. Anderson looks to be ready for have a break out year, he is very athletic and can play anywhere. Kapsner is a solid player whose skill set is improving. He will be looked upon to fill in where needed this season. And Stroo, has returned and looks as if he has not missed a beat, his glove in the middle will be an asset and we are looking for him to add some punch to our lineup offensively,” explained coach Engel of his returning players.
As a core group of 15, the Bulldog’s goals are to work hard and have fun playing the game.
“Wins and losses will take care of themselves, but building character and the relationships made during the season will last a lifetime,” expressed Engel.
Being able to work towards that common goal every day is one of the Bulldogs biggest strengths this season.
“We have adopted the theme ‘WE ARE proud of our tradition, WE ARE student athletes, WE ARE committed to our community, WE ARE Boyceville baseball’,” shared Engel.
With their goals locked in sight, the Bulldogs look to improve on their fourth place Dunn-St. Croix Conference finish from last season. They finished 3-5 in the D-SC and 3-8 overall after losing to Colfax in the Regional.
The Bulldogs were scheduled to play this Thursday (April 3) in New Richmond and then again at home on Monday, April 7 and Thursday, April 10, weather permitting that is.
