The Boyceville boys’ basketball team played two final games this past week to finish off their conference season. They were in Mondovi on Tuesday, February 18 and then at home this past Saturday to host Elk Mound.
The Bulldogs finished 0-2 after going against the top two ranked teams in the Dunn-St. Croix. They lost to the Buffaloes 66-24 and the game against the Mounders ended with a 67-24 final.
Mondovi had a huge first quarter, which set the pace for the remainder of the game. They posted 25 points compared to the Bulldogs’ 12.
Jordan Kuhn drained two triples and Brady Schutts, Hunter Anderson and Justin Schulz each had a deuce as well.
The gap in the score increased after the Bulldogs scored just three points in the second quarter with the help of a double and a free throw by Schulz.
The Buffaloes answered back with 17 additional points posted, which put the half time score at 42-15.
Schulz was again the go to shooter after the break as he scored the teams only points in the third quarter. He had two doubles and was four for four at the foul line for a total of eight points for the Bulldogs.
The Buffaloes were consistent on offense and scored another 17 points in the third for a 59-23 score going into the final eight minutes.
Anderson had a three and a deuce along with Tyler Draeger who had a three as well and Schutts dropped in a free throw for the Bulldog’s final nine points of the game in the fourth.
The Buffaloes finished with seven points to end the game at 66-32.
Schulz was the points leader for the team with 13 scored from four doubles and he was five for six from the free throw line.
Anderson followed with seven from one three and two doubles. Kuhn had six from two triples. And Schutts and Draeger each had three; Schutts had one double and one free throw and Draeger had his one three.
Home loss to Mounders
The Bulldogs closed out their regular season with a game against the currently undefeated D-SC Elk Mound Mounders.
The Mounders led by 15 points after the first quarter after scoring 17 of their own and they held the Bulldogs to just two points. Kuhn scored the Bulldog’s first basket of the game.
The Bulldogs were able to get three baskets made for a total of five points scored in the second quarter after Sam Hellmann and Draeger had a double and Schutts had a free throw.
Out of the half time break, the Bulldogs were down 22 points as the scoreboard read 29-7.
The Mounders were explosive on offense in the third quarter and they steam rolled over the Bulldogs with 26 points scored against their five for a 55-12 score going into the fourth.
The Bulldogs played their best game in the final eight minutes with 12 points scored including ten from Kuhn who had two threes, a double and two free throws. Schulz put down the other bucket for the team.
Kuhn finished his final conference game of his high school career as the leader in points with 12 scored from two triples, two doubles and he was two for two from the foul line.
Schutts followed with five from three free throws and one double. Hellmann, Schulz and Draeger each had one double and Anderson finished with one free throw.
The Bulldogs played Tuesday night (Feb. 25) against Eau Claire Regis for their first Regional game. The winner of that game will play in Spring Valley against the Cardinals this Friday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m.
