Lady Bulldogs win contest over Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran

By Kelsie Hoitomt

BOYCEVILLE – The Lady Bulldogs basketball team hosted the Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran Lancers and won 41-27.

The Lancers come from the Dairyland-Small Conference and are currently ranked third out of five total teams with a 5-4 overall record.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and were able to coast through the remainder of the game after posting 20 points in the first quarter.

Abbey Bird was hot under the net with three inside shots. Madysn Riek and Shyanne Marlett also banked into a shot off the glass for three doubles between the two. And it was Morgan Kuhn and April Lake with the freethrow baskets; Kuhn also drained the teams’ first triple.

The hoop was on fire on the Bulldogs side of the court and quite cold for the Lancers as they only put up three baskets for five points.

With the score at 20-8, the Bulldogs maintained their lead with eight points scored against the Lancers’ four in the second quarter.

Bird and Alexa Peterson both let the ball fly from behind the arc to help put the score at 28-9 going into the half.

The Bulldogs kept a 20 point lead over the Lancers in the second half as well after they posted ten additional points, including six from Bird, for a 38-18 third quarter score.

The offensive momentum seemed to come to a halt into the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs posted just three points from a triple by Peterson. The Lancers posted nine to put the final at 41-27.

It was Bird who led the game in points scored with 15 from six doubles and one triple. She also had eight steals and five defensive rebounds.

Kuhn followed with seven from one triple, one double and she was two for two from the line.

Riek finished with six from three doubles and Peterson also had six from her two triples. Lake had three from a double and a freethrow. And Marlett and Kennedy Hellmann each had a double.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to play Elmwood on Tuesday night, but due to the weather conditions, the game has been postponed.

Their next scheduled event is a game against St. Croix Central this Friday night (Jan. 31) at home.
