WISCONSIN DELLS — The Boyceville wrestling team finished second in their pool at the Dells Duals Classic this past Saturday, December 14. Seven athletes out of the 14 weight classes finished the day with a winning record.
There were 26 teams that competed at the Classic. The Bulldogs were placed in the Red Pool where they finished in second place behind DeForest (DF). Also in the pool was New Richmond (NR), Benilde St. Margaret (BSM), Oshkosh North (ON) and Iowa Grant/Highland (IGH).
Finishing 5-0 at the start of the roster was Austin Wolfe at 106 pounds. He received two forfeits and then beat Shania Sarbacker (IGH) on a major decision of 10-0. He pinned Frankie Gormley (BSM) in 1:24 and then pinned Trevor Schulte (ON) in 1:14.
Also at 5-0 on the day was James Palmer at 113 pounds. Palmer won by fall in the first round against Travis Konopacki (DF) in 55 seconds. He also pinned Charlie Wolfe (BSM) and Kyle Schwartz (ON). He received a forfeit and then won by a major decision of 12-0 against Jordan Jenks (IGH).
At 138 pounds with a 5-0 record on the day as well was Micah Johnson. He finished the day with four pins in :44 over Garret Hildebrandt (NR), :42 over McClain Marshall (IGH), 1:18 over Hunter Rust (BSM) and 3:44 over Logan McConnell (ON). He also won by a decision of 8-0 against Jackson Hemauer (DF).
Finishing 4-0 was Tyler Stroo at 126 pounds. He received one forfeit, won by a decision of 8-6 against Seth Leavens (NR), won by decision of 13-8 over Jalen Haase (ON) and had a fall in 35 seconds over Zach Bigelbach (BSM).
Finishing near perfect with a one loss for a 4-1 record on the day were Jon Harnisch and Bryor Hellmann.
Harnisch wrestled at 152 pounds and had one pin on the day, which came against Tony Thies (BSM) in 1:12. He won by a decision of 4-0 over Nathan Harris (DF) and a 4-2 decision over Austin Anderson (NR). He received one forfeit and then lost to Louis Niendorf (ON) on a close decision of 5-4.
Hellmann wrestled four matches at 160 pounds and had one at 170, which ended in a winning decision of 8-5 over Carter Burn (BSM). He won by fall against Mitch Hickman (DF) and Michael Steel (NR). He received on forfeit and suffered the one loss to Brian Halverson (IGH) on 5-3 decision in overtime.
Wrestling at 170 pounds was Logan McAbee-Thomas with a 3-2 record. One victory came at 182 pounds against Malik Nolen (BSM) which ended in a fall at 1:16.
At 170, McAbee-Thomas pinned Cullen Gruewalk (ON) in 2:00 and received a forfeit for his three wins. He lost to Kevon Rauls (DF) and Dominic Ficociello (NR).
Finishing at 182 pounds was Alex Lovett with a 3-2 record as well. He won by a decision of 4-1 over Grayson Vanderloop (ON) and then received a forfeit. He also received a forfeit at 195 pounds for his three wins. He lost by a pin to Brock Allen (DF) and by a decision of 6-3 to Alex Schmidt (NR).
Tyler Draeger also wrestled a match in the 195 pound weight class. He lost to Ben Salzman (ON) by a fall in 4:31.
James Lindo finished even with a 2-2 record at 132 pounds after pinning Romerow Herndon (BSM) in 45 seconds and then receiving a forfeit. He lost to Michael Drexler (ON) on a 9-7 decision and was pinned by Mikkel Wind (IGH).
Finishing on the down side, was Wyatt Hansen with a 2-3 record at 145 pounds. One win was a pin over Alex Schodin (DF) in 2:47. The second win was on a decision of 9-0 over Chad Michels (ON).
Also 2-3 was Brandon Windsor at heavyweight. He won by fall against Bernard Smith (ON) and also received a forfeit.
Brock Swenson finished with a 1-4 record at 120 pounds. His one win came against Trenton Arndt (IGH) with a major decision of 13-0.
Also wrestling at 120 was Sawyer Swenson and he won his match against Gregg Dubois (DF) by a fall at 1:54.
Also at 1-4 was Jake Erickson at 220 pounds with his one win being a forfeit.
Next through the roster was Dylan Lamm also at 132 pounds with a 0-1 record. He lost to Will Gahnz (DF) on a decision of 10-0.
The Bulldogs were back in action Tuesday (Dec. 17) with a dual in Cadott. Next on the schedule is the invitational in Osceola this Saturday (Dec. 21) starting at 9:00 a.m.
