BOYCEVILLE – The Lady Bulldogs are back on the court for the 2013-14 basketball season with a handful of returning players and letter winners from last season.

The Bulldogs look to be led by two seniors this year that have at least two years of varsity experience under their shoes; April Lake and Kennedy Hellmann.

Both Lake and Hellmann were letter winners last season as well as juniors Abbey Bird, Alexa Peterson and Shyanne Marlett; each of who look to be big impacts on the court again this year.

As a sophomore, Bird was the leader in points-per-game (ppg) in 2012-13 with a 12.0 average as well as the team high in assists with 1.5 average. Behind her was Lake with a 7.6 ppg as well as the team high in rebounds with 5.9 per game.

Aside from the seniors and juniors, the Bulldogs also have five players that are now sophomores returning to the team including Abbie Hayes, Marki Lagerstrom, Peyton Hellmann, Jenna Beyrer and Katie Kegen.

New to the basketball team this year and looking to add to their competitive drive are freshmen Mya Dryden, Cassie Malean, Brooklyn Booth, Madysn Riek, Morgan Kuhn, Kayla Hoff, Brooklyn Hellmann, Carlee Schultz and Emma Harnisch.

“Our goal this season is to be competitive in every game. With a solid conference and a grueling non-conference schedule, we need to be ready to play every night,” said head coach Jolene Bird.

This is Jolene Bird’s 17th season with the Lady Bulldogs. She coached the team to an 11-13 overall record and an 8-8 conference record last season.

The Bulldogs won their first regional game against the Spring Valley Cardinals, but lost to Elk Mound in the second round to end the season earlier this year.

They will again face off against the Cardinals for their first game of the season on Tuesday, November 26 at home starting at 7:30 p.m.

Their next scheduled game after that is on the road on Monday, December 2 against Eau Claire Regis.
