By Kelsie Hoitomt

BOYCEVILLE – It was a typical first game of the season for the Boyceville boys’ basketball team as they were a tad rusty and had a few first game jitters, but that aside they won 39-27 over the Plum City Blue Devils.

The first half of the game was slow going as both teams struggled to score baskets. The Blue Devils managed an early lead of 0-4, but Jake McIntyre drained the Bulldogs’ first shot to put the score within two points.

Justin Schulz made the second basket of the game for the Bulldogs to start the second quarter, which tied the score at 4-4.

Brady Schutts tied it again with two foul shots for a 6-6 score. He drew another foul and drained both shots, which gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game.

Schutts was fouled three times in the second quarter alone. He was successful with five out of six foul shots.

Both teams found their groove with three minutes left to play before half-time. The baskets seemed to fall through the net more consistantly and the movement up and down the court was quicker.

This led to the game knotting at 12-12 until Jordan Kuhn drained the first three-point shot for the Bulldogs to push them ahead 15-12.

The Blue Devils battled back and scored two more baskets before the half-time buzzer rang, which put the score at 19-17 going into the third quarter.

The Bulldogs played a solid game in the second half with nine points scored in the third quarter and an additional 11 posted in the fourth. They held the Blue Devils to just five points scored in both the third and fourth.

In the third quarter, Kuhn was fouled and drained both baskets. Schulz knocked down a basket from behind the arch and McIntyre and Hunter Anderson each had scored a basket from under the net.

In the fourth, McIntyre led in points with four from two baskets. Kuhn again had one foul shot and Schutts, Schulz and Tyler Draeger each had a basket.

Kuhn led the game in points with ten. Following was was Schutts with nine as well as five steals for the team. McIntyre followed with eight points. Then it was Schulz with seven points on the night and ten rebounds as well. Also scoring was Draeger with three points and Anderson with two.

The Bulldogs had 12 two-point baskets and two three-pointers. They were successful with nine of their 16 foul shot attempts.

On the other side, the Blue Devils had seven two-point baskets and three, three-pointers. They were successful with four of their seven foul shots.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play their next game on Tuesday, December 3 in Bruce. They will be back home on Thursday, December 5 to host the Colfax Vikings with both games starting at 7:30 p.m.
