Hilltopper runners prep for Conference meet on Thursday

The Glenwood City cross country team competed in two races this past week with a conference meet last Monday, October 7 in Colfax and then a non-conference invitational at Eau Claire Memorial this past Saturday.
Colfax Invite
The girls’ team had an exceptional 4K race as they finished in second place against the five other conference schools with a team total of 67 as their top five runners all finished in the top 20. First place went to Colfax with a team score of 35.
Taylor Drinkman was in the front of the pack for the Hilltoppers in seventh place overall out of 52 runners with a time of 17:22.28 in the 2.5 mile race.
Juniors, Jennifer Kopacz and Kaitlin Konder followed as the number two and three runners with Kopacz in tenth place (17:37.85) and Konder in 14th (18:06.63).
Finishing in the final two scoring positions were Macie Rasmussen in 16th (18:21.95) and senior runner Jenna Magsam in 20th (18:35.91).
Also participating in the race was Maya Petersen who finished in 21st place (18:38.76), Jenny Lindquist placed 25th (18:51.13), Morgan Kadinger was 27th (18:59.34), Ashley Holmquist was 50th (21:46.34) and Becca Jensen was 51st (27:28.65).
The boys’ team did not have enough runners to fill a complete team, but four runners did participate in the 5K race. Jack Kremer placed 25th (19:49.26), Andrew Bauman was 44th (21:22.58), Cody Huebner was 49th (21:51.62) and Corey Klatt was 52nd (22:02.79).
Old Abe Invite
The girls’ team finished towards the back of the pack in the most recent race with an 11th place out of 16 total teams at the Old Abe Invitational in Eau Claire.
Despite the team ranking, Drinkman, Rasmussen and Petersen each ran their personal best races.
Drinkman crossed the finish line first for the Hilltoppers after running a 16:33.0 for 32nd place out of 116 total participants.
Almost a minute later the second Hilltopper would complete the race with Kopacz in 56th with a 17:22.7. Following close behind her was Konder in 58th with a 17:28.2.
Completing the rest of the team were Lindquist in 73rd (17:52.3), Macie Rasmussen in 80th (18:00.8), Maya Petersen in 83rd (18:04.0) and Ashley Holmquist in 103rd (20:08.2).
Cody Huebner and Klatt were the two Hilltoppers that competed in the boys’ race. They were side by side at the finish line with Huebner in 110th with a 21:59.0 and Klatt in 111th with a 22:02.4.
The Hilltoppers are officially done with their regular season. They are now scheduled to compete back in Colfax this Thursday, October 17 for the Conference meet starting at 4:30 p.m.
