Rustic Lore presents “Hillbilly Hoedown”

GLENWOOD CITY — The first full weekend in September marks the 2013 Rustic Lore “Hillbilly Hoedown” event in Glenwood City with activities starting Friday, September 6.
The Kick-Off Picnic will be sponsored by Hiawatha National Bank again this year with everyone welcome to grab some food in the bank parking lot from 3:30-7:00 p.m.
Friday evening will feature a Softball Tournament at the City Ball Fields at 6:00 p.m. This will continue Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m.
That night at 7:00 p.m. will be the Cow Pie Lotto on Main Street as well as the 3rd Annual FFA Alumni Tractor Pull at the Fairgrounds.
Providing the musical entertainment that night for the Street Dance will be the band Phoenix who will perform from 8:30 p.m.- 12:30 a.m.
Starting off Saturday at 8:00 a.m. will be the 7th Annual Brenda Cassellius-Wink Kickball Tournament at Hinman Park. Also starting at that time and going until 4:00 p.m. will be the Antique and Collectibles Sale at the Community Center.
On display from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. will be the annual Rods and Rides Car Show on Main Street. And lastly that morning starting at 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. will be the Old Time Sawmill Demonstration by Don Hogenson in the Ormson’s parking lot.
That afternoon, there will be the Mini Rod and Garden Tractor Pull hosted by M&M Bar and taking place in their parking lot at 3:00 p.m.
The Weekenders will be back this year to perform an afternoon show on Main Street starting at 4:00 p.m.
That evening will be the annual Queen’s Pageant and Coronation of the new Glenwood City court, which will take place in the high school gymnasium starting at 7:00 p.m.
And lastly, wrapping up Saturday’s day long activities will be the musical entertainment of the Section 8 band, again from 8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
Sunday will be the final day of Rustic Lore with festivities beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the Glen Hills Lions Club will sponsor a Barbeque Chicken Dinner in the Community Center until 2:00 p.m. For dessert, people can stop by the big tent on Main Street for the Pie and Ice Cream Social from 11:30-4:00 p.m.
Sunday afternoon will feature the Grand Parade down Main Street starting at 1:00 p.m., which will be led by Grand Marshals, Ron and Donna Brettingen.
Following the parade will be the Band Awards at the Fairgrounds and Raffle Prize winners will be announced on Main Street. Also on Main Street will be the “Battle of the Businesses” Pedal Tractor Pull.
Open for people to view all weekend long will be the History Center as well as the Town of Tormented Souls Haunted House in the Red Cedar Clinic parking lot.
