FLAMBEAU — The Boyceville football team earned their first win of the 2013 season after beating the Flambeau Falcons 21-0 last Thursday, August 22.
The Bulldogs took the victory very serious as a game against the Falcons is a good indicator of what a playoff round would be like as Flambeau is a typical contender in the playoffs.
Boyceville was on the board in the first quarter after senior Isaac Wold ran the ball 18 yards for a touchdown. However the extra point was unsuccessful, but the Bulldogs were still up 6-0.
The Bulldogs controlled the ball the majority of the first quarter as they only allowed the Falcons to gain seven yards in eight plays.
The second quarter had a similar result with the Bulldogs controlling most of the clock and scoring their second touchdown after quarterback, Brady Schutts connected with wide receiver, Mitch Leach for a five yard run.
Leach had previously intercepted the ball, which set the Bulldogs up for the play that led to the touchdown reception.
Leach then carried the ball again for the two-point conversion, which put the Bulldogs ahead 14-0 going into the half.
The third quarter was a back and forth game of carrying the ball up and down the field as neither team scored any points. The Bulldogs posted 96 yards in rushing plays and allowed the Falcons 54 yards on nine carries.
The Bulldogs defense kicked it in high gear for the final quarter as they knocked the Falcons back to negative one rushing yards on four carries.
Both Leach and Jordan Morse had interceptions in the quarter as well for a combined 27 yards gained against the Falcons.
On the offense, the Bulldogs were hot on the ball as well as they brought it within eight yards of the goal line and that is when Wold carried it in for his second touchdown. Jake Lake put the boot to the ball for the extra point to put the score at its final, 21-0.
Leading the Bulldogs in rushing was Logan McAbee-Thomas who posted 105 yards, which aided the team in two of their three touchdowns.
Wold followed with 64 yards and the two touchdowns, Devonta Anderson had 25 yards, Tyler Draeger had 24 yards, Brett Boda had 14 yards and Jordan Morse ran for 12 yards.
The Bulldogs rushed for a total of 242 yards on 61 carries. They allowed the Falcons just 96 yards on 26 carries.
On the receiving end, Schutts two completions out of five for 18 yards and the one touchdown to Leach. Also at quarterback was Hunter Anderson who had two completions out of nine for 13 yards.
Leach finished the night with 38 yards on three receptions and one touchdown.
Along with the three interceptions, the Falcons had two completions on nine attempts for a mere four yards.
This week the Bulldogs will suit up Friday night for their first home game against the Augusta Beavers who finished 1-6 in the Dairyland Conference in 2012. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.
