Bulldogs end baseball season in Colfax

COLFAX — The Bulldogs took one on the chin against the Colfax Vikings to end their 2013 season after an 11-4 loss in the opening round of the regional tournament last Friday, May 24.
The Vikings took an early lead and ran with it after scoring three runs in the first inning and one in the second for a 4-0 lead going into the fourth inning.
The final blow came in the fourth with seven Colfax runners crossing home plate. However, the Bulldogs were able to put themselves on the board with three runs scored.
Matt Leach was hit by a pitch and then advanced to third after Nick Wathke hit a double. Leach scored on an RBI from Hunter Anderson. Wathke was brought home after Jason Erickson grounded out to short. Anderson then scored on an RBI by Brett Boda to end the inning.
Jordan Kuhn scored the Bulldogs’ final run of the game in the fifth inning after he drew a walk and then stole home on errors from the Vikings’ pitcher Logan Mittelstadt.
The score would remain at 11-4 throughout the final two innings and the Vikings would take home the victory and advance to the level 2 Regional game against Elk Mound.
Mittelstadt was the winning pitcher with four runs and four walks allowed with nine strikeouts in seven innings.
Finishing the season on the mound for the Bulldogs were pitchers Kuhn, Jon Erickson and Anderson. Kuhn was the losing pitcher after two innings with four runs and one walk allowed with two strikeouts.
