The Glenwood City softball team ended their short and hectic 2013 season to the McDonell Central Macks in the Level 1 Regional at Casper Park last Thursday, May 16. They finished up their conference season in Colfax last Tuesday, May 14.

Regional game

It was a tough end to what has been a challenging season for the Lady Toppers on the diamond after losing to McDonell Central 12-0 in the Regional game.

Errors from Hilltoppers and a big third inning from the Macks was the deciding factor in the end result after seven runs were scored, which put the game at 12-0.

The Toppers had three hits in the five innings against the Mack’s pitcher, Bailey Eckert. Mikaela Voeltz had a single in the first inning, Taylor Brittain reached second base after a single in the second inning and Bailey Britton had a hit in the second as well.

D-H vs Colfax

The Toppers won the first game of the doubleheader against the Vikings with a 3-2 final. They weren’t able to keep the momentum going in the final five innings and lost 11-0 in the second game.

The bats were hot in the first inning in game one with back to back doubles from Voeltz and Megan Samens. Samens ripped one out to left field for the RBI and then was advanced home on an RBI from Leslie Ludtke. Kelly Perkins then scored the final run of the inning and the game for the Toppers.

The Toppers were unsuccessful in the second game against the Viking’s freshman pitcher, Lakken Merideth who allowed for just two hits in the entire five innings.

Voeltz crushed the ball to right field in the third inning for a double, but was left standing on second base. She would have the teams only other hit with a single in the fifth inning.

On the mound for the Toppers was Leslie Ludtke who allowed for just three walks between both games and had two strikeouts in 52 At Bats.
