Bulldogs advance several track and fielders to the Sectional meet

BOYCEVILLE – The Boyceville track and field teams hosted a Division 3 Regional Meet on Monday, May 20 where the boy’s team finished fourth and the girls placed fifth against eight other high schools.

The top four finishers in each event are given the opportunity to perform at the Sectional level.

Advancing in the field events is senior Zach Klassen who had his best performance of the year in the pole vault with a massive jump of 13’ 0” which landed him in first place. In second place was teammate Tyler Wolfe with a height of 10’ 6”.

Klassen will also be competing in the 300 m hurdles after he ran a 42.98, which put him in second place and in the long jump, which he finished third in.

The Bulldogs have two girls advancing in the pole vault as well after Danielle Nelson placed second and Alex Wold tied for third place.

For the girls, it was senior Katelyn Merten that earned a gold in the triple jump with a 33’ 3.75”. She will compete in the long jump and high jump at Sectionals as well after finishing in second and fourth at the Regional.

Also moving a step closer to the state level for the girls is Ireland McAbee-Thomas in the high jump after she tied for fourth place.

April Lake has been a strong contender in the shot put and discus with a fourth place finish in both events, which is just enough to bring her to Sectionals.

For the boys, Logan McAbee-Thomas, the school’s record holder in the triple jump, will advance in that event after he took second.

Josh Cormican powered his way into fourth place in the 100 m dash after a time of 12.37

Lastly, the boys 4×200 relay team finished in second place after Tyler Wolfe, Dominic Olson, Logan McAbee-Thomas and Devonta Anderson ran a time of 1:38.02. The 4×400 team also placed second with Olson, Will Kraft, Ian Kane and Klassen running a 3:37.51.And just making the cutoff in fourth place was the 4×800 relay team consisting of Olson, Mitch Pustol, Isaac Boyd and Kane

These athletes are scheduled to compete at the Division 3 Sectional Meet in Colfax this Thursday, May 23 starting at 3:00 p.m.
