Toppers finish regular season strong at SCC invite; Wagner has personal best in Colfax

COLFAX/HAMMOND — The Glenwood City track and field team competed in their final two meets of the regular season on Tuesday, May 7 in Colfax and Thursday, May 9 at St. Croix Central.

 Colfax Meet

Senior athlete, Chris Wagner had a perfect performance and a personal best in the field at Colfax with a first place finish in the discus after a huge throw of 151 feet and six inches. The closest throw to him was at 135 feet out of 26 participants. He threw strong in the shot put as well finishing in fifth with a 41’ 1”.

SCC Invitational

The Hilltoppers continued to improve on the track with more runners placing at the top of events. Ethan Brandt took first place in the 400 m with a 58.89, a full second faster then second place. Maya Petersen ran a strong race in the 300 m hurdles with a second place finish (55.00). Fellow teammate Macie Rasmussen was close behind with a 55.40. Also finishing a few seconds apart were Morgan Kadinger and Gabby Peterson in the 200 m. Kadinger placed second (30.49) and Peterson in third (30.94).

As a group, the girls relay teams did very well with a number one spot for the 4×800 team consisting of Rasmussen, Kaitlin Konder, Jenny Lindquist and Jenna Magsam with a 12:01.20. The 4×100 and 4×200 teams also competed well with second place finishes.

In the field, the Toppers almost swept every event. Wagner continued his reign at the top in the discus throw and then took second in the shot put. For the girls, Hannah Steinberger was second in the discus.

Also placing was Rasmussen who took first in the triple jump, Hannah Steinberger was second in the discus throw, Kadinger earned a first place spot in the high jump with a 4’ 8”. Haley Tiberg was close behind in second with a 4’ 6”. Donovan Fornal also placed at the top in second with a jump of 5’ 4”.

The Toppers excelled in the long jump with the top three places going to Glenwood City for the girl’s team with Kristie Knops in first place, Megan Steinberger at second and Rasmussen at third. The boy’s team followed a similar suit with Isaac Tuttle placing second, Tyler Johnson in third and Todd Petersen in fourth.

Also with personal bests this past week at the Frederic meet were Mackenzie Wink in the high jump with a 4’ 8”, Donovan Fornal in the high jump with a 5’ 10”, Marcus Kadinger in the high jump with a 5’ 8” and Todd Petersen in the triple jump with a 37’ 2.5”.

The Toppers traveled back to the St. Croix Central High School for the Conference meet on Tuesday, May 14. The Regional meet will be on Monday, May 20 in Webster. The top two regional qualifiers will advance to the Sectional meet, which will be held in Colfax on May 23.
