Glenwood City girls place third at SCC track invitational; boys in ninth

HAMMOND — With the weather finally cooperating, the Glenwood City track and field team was able to compete for the second time this year at the St. Croix Central High School last Tuesday, April 30. The girls’ team had a third place finish and the boys placed ninth out of nine total schools.
As a team, the girls had an excellent day on the track with the 4×100 team consisting of Kayla Bloss, Jennifer Kopacz, Janessa Ullom and Gabby Peterson taking first place with a time of 54.59. The 4×800 team also finished towards the top in third place with Morgan Kadinger, Macie Rasmussen, Jenny Lindquist and Jennifer Kopacz running a time of 10:53.43.
Individually, the Lady Toppers were solid in all events including running, jumping or throwing.
On the track, Jennifer Kopacz finished in second place in the 400 m dash (1:06.40) just a couple seconds behind first place finisher, Emily Bayer of Prescott. Morgan Kadinger also finished near the top with a third place spot in the 800 m with a 2:34.00.
In jumping events it was again Kadinger who finished at the top, this time in first place with a 5’ 0” mark in the high jump. In second place was teammate Haley Tiberg with a 4’ 11”. In the long jump, Megan Steinberger placed second with a 14’ 8”. She then finished in third in the triple jump with a 29’ 11”.
In other events, the arm of Tiberg landed her a first place finish in the shot put with a 30’ 1.5”. Hannah Steinberger also had a solid throw in the discus to put her in second place with a 84’ 10.5”. Lindquist placed fourth in the pole vault with an even 6’ 0”.
Individually for the boys’ team, Issac Tuttle had a good day on the track with a third place finish in the 200 m (23.39) and a fourth place finish in the 100 m (11.50).
In the field it was Chris Wagner with a first place finish in the discus with an impressive 147’ 9” throw. The closest throw to him was a 130’ 9”.
The Hilltoppers are scheduled to compete today (May 8) at the Amery Invitational and then Thursday, May 9 at Boyceville.
