GLENWOOD CITY – The Glenwood City softball team hosted Boyceville on Monday, April 29 for a double-header with the Bulldogs beating the Toppers 9-4 and 8-3.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the first game with five of their nine runs scored with Brooklynn Blaser, Anna Jenkins, Kysa Franseen, Kennedy Hellmann and Rachal Anderson crossing the plate. Anderson crushed one out to right field for a grand slam.
The second inning was three up three down for pitchers Leslie Ludtke and Kennedy Hellmann with zero runs scored. However, the Toppers got the bats going in the third inning with four runs scored from Kenzie Kruse, Nikki Gabbert, Kelly Perkins and Leslie Ludtke. Perkins hit a double to push two runs through along with RBI from Gabbert and Hannah Ludtke.
The Bulldogs had more runs in the third inning as well to push their lead further ahead with Brandi Curvello, Anderson and Katie Kegen scoring. Curvello would score their final run of the first game in last inning.
The bats continued to roll in the second game for the Bulldogs with three runs scored in the first inning with Jenkins and Blaser crossing the plate after drawing walks from Leslie Ludtke. Also scoring was Franseen.
The Toppers had one run cross the plate in the first inning from Kruse. The Topper’s final two runs would come in the third inning from Gabbert who hit a hard ball to the outfield, which put her on second base and pushed in Megan Samens for the RBI.
The Bulldogs also had a big third inning with four runs scored after Peterson hit a double and scored as well as Franseen, Hellmann and Curvello. Their final run would score in the last inning from Hellmann.
The Bulldogs will play their next double-header this Thursday, May 2 in St. Croix Central against the Panthers starting at 4:30 p.m. The Hilltoppers played Tuesday, April 30 at home against St. Croix Central and are scheduled to play Thursday at home against Colfax with both games starting at 4:30 p.m.
