GC golfers start season on home course

GLENWOOD CITY — The Glenwood City golf team had its first conference meet of the 2013 season on Monday, April 29 at the Glen Hills Golf Course, which had just officially opened a few days prior.

The Hilltoppers had a bit of a rough day for their first conference meet of the season as it was their first time out of the gym and on an actual course.

 Jake Hierlmeier finished on top of the leader board for the Hilltoppers as a co-medalist with a nine-hole score of 41 for a three-way tie for first place along side Hayden Ford of Mondovi and Jacob R. of Spring Valley.

Rounding out the rest of the team was Zach Schemionek and Tyler Nueske each with a score of 48 and Nick Mrdutt and Mike Johnson each with a 50 stroke round.

As a team the Toppers finished in third place with a combined score of 187 with first place honors going to Mondovi with 181. The Toppers were just three strokes shy of placing second as Spring Valley finished with a 184.

The Glenwood City Junior Varsity team had a better day on the course as they placed first out of the five schools with a total of 185 strokes.

The Hilltoppers were in Mondovi on Tuesday, April 30 and are scheduled to compete in Colfax today (May 1) and will be back in Colfax this Friday, May 3. They will head to St. Croix Central on Monday, May 6 for a double-header with two rounds played with the first round starting at 2:00 p.m.
