St. John the Baptist FFP Program holds successful Almsgiving event

During the Lenten season this year the youth grades Kindergarten through 10th grade practiced almsgiving.  Each week they were asked to bring in pennies and nonperishable food items to be given to the needy. This was done with a classroom completion.

Placing first in the food collection was the First grade class, under instructor Maureen Junker. A total of 608 nonperishable items were brought in and donated to West CAP.

In the Penny Collection event, the second grade class, under instructor Mary Mahoney, brought in the most pennies. However, the fifth grade class, with Kathy Obermueller as instructor, came in a very close second. Both classes contributed over $100 each. Money from the penny collection will be distributed to needy families from the parish to purchase food at Ormson’s Super Valu.
