Bulldogs’ track season officially underway

MENOMONIE — The Boyceville track and field teams started their 2013 season off with an indoor meet last Friday, March 15 at the UW-Stout complex.
The girls’ team had a decent first meet as they finished in ninth place out of 15 area teams with 28 points. The boys’ team placed in 14th out of 17 teams with 12 points.
Freshman competitor Hope Chovan had a solid first performance for the Bulldogs as she finished in second place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.61. She finished in second place in the preliminary dash as well with a 7.78 time.
Chovan then competed in the 200 m dash and finished in ninth place out of 26 runners with a time of 29.45
In the 400 m dash it was also newcomers Abby Lorenz and Carolyn Voelker that competed and placed for the girls’ team. Lorenz finished in 15th (1:16.99) and Voelker finished 19th (1:21.20).
Voelker also placed in the 800 m run in 20th (3:28.33) and fellow teammate Michaella Kegen placed 15th (3:03.95). Kegen also competed in the 3200 m run with a 14:34.12 for eighth place.
In the 1600 m run, freshman Samantha Merkel and Anna Hagan finished along side each other in 19th and 20th. Merkel had a 7:18.24 and Hagan finished with a 7:24.00.
Senior Katelyn Merten showed off her experience as she took first place out of 24 competitors in the long jump with a 14-10.50. She also placed third in the high jump with a 4’ 10” and then took sixth place in the triple jump with a 30-05.50.
Fellow senior Alex Wold also showed off her skill as she competed in the triple jump and finished 16th (26-02). She competed in the pole vault and finished in seven-way tie for ninth place with a 6’ 0” and also placed 11th (11.09) in the 55 m hurdles.
Freshman Destiny Klinger also competed in the long jump and placed 13th with a 12-7.
Lastly for the girls’ team were Melissa Leach and Shannon Best in the shot put. Leach finished 19th (19-06.50) and Best finished 20th (17-09.00).
For the boys’ team, it was the experience that weighed in on their success. Senior Tyler Wolfe finished in 13th out 29 in the 200 m dash with a 25.47, 10th in the pole vault with a 9’ 0” and eighth in the long jump with a 18-01.50.
Fellow senior Zach Klassen took fifth place in the long jump with a 18-10.00 and then finished in eighth place in the pole vault in a jump of 10’ 0”.
Also for the seniors were Will Kraft who finished eighth in the 400 m dash with a 57.27 and Isaac Boyd placed 13th in the 800 m run.
For the juniors, Ian Kane placed 14th with a 2:19.15 in the 800 m run, Tanner Johnson-Hetchler placed 13th in the 1600 m run (5:21.25), James Lindo was 14th in the 3200 m run (13:14.03) and John Harnisch was 29th in the shot put (30-03).
Sophomore Logan Thomas-McAbee placed fourth out of 20 in the triple jump with a 40-08.50. Fellow sophomore Mitch Pustol also placed in the 1600 m run in 14th with a 5:27.18 and Caleb Arndt finished 30th in the shot put (30-01).
Rounding out the boys’ team were freshman Buddy Hanestad who placed 14th in the 400 m dash (1:00.13) and Andrew Marshall placed 18th in the triple jump (32-08.50).
The Bulldogs are scheduled to compete at UW-Stout again this Saturday, March 23 for the Northern Badger Invite starting at 9:00 a.m.
