Buffaloes stampede Lady Bulldogs

BOYCEVILLE — The Lady Bulldogs ended their regular season of play at home last Thursday, February 21 after losing to the Mondovi Buffaloes 55-26.
The Bulldogs were only down by four points in the first quarter against the Buffaloes who are the number two ranked team in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference.
The game took a turn for the worse however in the second quarter as the Bulldogs gave up too many turnovers and the Buffaloes were able to take an 11 point lead at the half with the score at 22-11.
The Buffloes stepped up their game even more in the second half with 18 points scored in the third quarter and 15 in the fourth.
The Bulldogs were only able to put down two baskets in the third quarter from April Lake and Kysa Franseen for a 40-15 score going into the final eight minutes.
The Lady Dogs had their best performance in the fourth quarter with 11 points scored through the efforts of Katelyn Merten who drained two treys, Franseen who had three free throws and Lake had a basket.
As a team, the Bulldogs were four for ten at the foul line. The Buffaloes were 11 for 15 on free throw shots.
Merten was the points leader for Bulldogs due to her strong performance from outside the arc with three treys and a deuce for 11 points.
Also scoring were Lake and Franseen who each had six and Alexa Peterson had a triple in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs were without starting player Abbey Bird who sat out due to an injury.
The Bulldogs ended their conference season 8-8; they were ranked number two in the DSC last season with 12-4 record.
The Bulldogs played their first Regional game on Tuesday, February 26 at home against Spring Valley. The winner of that game advances to play Elk Mound on Friday, March 1 starting at 7:00 p.m.
