By Kelsie Hoitomt

BOYCEVILLE — The Boyceville boys’ basketball team ended their Dunn-St.Croix Conference season with a 5-11 record after defeating the Mondovi Buffaloes 52-49 last Friday, February 15.

The final score reflected the back and forth battle between the two teams that lasted throughout the entire game.

The Buffaloes had a one point lead after the first eight minutes, but the Bulldogs edged out a lead before the half after Michael Lagerstrom drained a three pointer for a 28-25 second quarter score.

The Bulldogs played their best game in the second and third quarter with 18 points scored in the second and 14 in the third, which included four treys by Jordan Kuhn.

Zach Klassen played strong under the net getting rebounds, which kept the ball in the Bulldogs’ hands and aided in the points that were scored.

This allowed the Bulldogs some breathing room as they held their biggest lead over the Buffaloes in the third with the score at 42-36 going into the final quarter.

The Bulldogs finished the game with ten points scored in the fourth quarter from Lagerstrom and Brady Schutts.

Mondovi tried their run for the lead after starting the quarter off with a couple of baskets and a triple, but Boyceville managed to keep the ball in their hands for the three-point win.

Kuhn was the points leader of the game as he was unstoppable from outside the arc with 15 points scored from five treys. Lagerstrom also had a strong game with 14 points from three deuces, two treys and two free throws.

Schutts had nine points from three deuces and three free throws. Klassen had six points before fouling out from a basket and he was four for four at free throws. Matt Leach scored five points and Ryan Williams had three.

The Bulldogs played Tuesday night at home against Flambeau for the first round of Regionals. The winner of that game advances to play at Grantsburg on Friday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m.
