Vikings raid Lady Bulldogs at home

BOYCEVILLE – The Lady Bulldogs ended their set of home games last Thursday night as they hosted the undefeated Colfax Vikings and lost 43-27.
The first half of the game was a different story than the second as the Bulldogs matched up fairly even along side the Vikings as the score was just 7-6 in the opening quarter and then 21-17 by the half.
The Bulldogs were on fire outside the arc in the second quarter as Alexa Peterson, Katelyn Merten and Kysa Franseen all drained three point shots. Brooklynn Blaser added two free throws to the mix, which added up to the 11 points scored for the Bulldogs, making it their best quarter of the game.
The Vikings stepped up their defense in the second half of the game, which resulted in the Bulldogs not being able to push the ball to the net as often as needed.
This caused the Vikings to score 15 points in the third quarter, which was enough to give them the big lead they needed. Their defense held the Bulldogs to a combined ten points scored between the third and fourth quarter.
Franseen was the team’s points leader with nine from three deuces and one triple. Blaser had five points from one deuce and three free throws. Bird also had five points from one deuce and she was three for three at the line. Merten and Peterson each had three points from a triple and Marlett had two points from one basket.
As a team, the Bulldogs had a stronger performance at the foul line as they were 75 percent with six out of the eight attempts successful.
The Bulldogs are currently 4-7 in the conference. They finished 12-4 last season and there are still five conference games left to play before Regionals on February 26.
The Lady Dogs traveled to Spring Valley Tuesday night and will be back at home to host the Elmwood Raiders on Friday.
