Hilltoppers end regular season with a win; Moe gets 150th win

GLENWOOD CITY – The Glenwood City grapplers had an all around great night of wrestling last Thursday, January 31 for Parents’ Night as they defeated the Mondovi Buffaloes 52-25 and senior Austin Moe earned his 150th high school career win.

It was a fairly close match up between both teams throughout the lighter weights as the Buffaloes scored first after a forfeit at 106 and Brett Larson won by a decision of 11-2 over Damian Hoitomt.

The Toppers scored their first set of points after Riley Knops was able to work the arm of Jake Larson for a pin in the second period and then Jake Carlson pinned Nic Rausenberger early in the first period.

The Buffaloes would take their last lead of the night after Logan Giedd received a forfeit at 132 lbs. and Dan Goss won by a decision of 14-10 over Billy Norenberg.

The Toppers then blew up the score board with 34 unanswered points scored after Adam Holmquist won by a 9-1 decision over Lee Becker, Hunter Chouinard received a forfeit, Moe pinned Ben Andress in 26 seconds, Jeff Kopacz pinned Brandon Bursaw in under a minute, Issac Tuttle received a forfeit and Brennan Kessler managed to revive some strength late in the second period to pin Neil Matchey.

Mondovi scored their final six points of the night at 220 lbs. after Donovan Fornal got stuck and wasn’t able to roll his way out of Austin Schweinfus’s grip for a pin late in the match.

The dual ended with Kyle Peterson receiving a forfeit at heavy weight.

The Hilltoppers ended the regular season 2-2 in the Dunn-St.Croix Conference and were 12-8 overall.
