Lady Toppers stomp the Panthers
By Kelsie Hoitomt
HAMMOND – The Lady Hilltoppers have been on a winning streak lately with their last three conference games ending in victories including Thursday night’s game against St. Croix Central.
It was a bit of a blow out like the game against Elmwood as the Panthers scored just 16 points and the Hilltoppers ended with 35.
This now puts the Hilltoppers at a 6-3 record in the Dunn-St.Croix conference and the Panthers at 2-7.
The Toppers jumped to an early lead in the first quarter with ten points scored and another 12 in the second. The Panthers on the other hand were pretty unsuccessful at baskets as they only scored one in the first and then two free throws in the second for a score of 22-4 by half time.
The momentum seemed to fade away in the third quarter however as the Toppers only scored three points and the Panthers did as well, but the Toppers still were in the lead 25-7.
The fourth quarter showed a better performance out of the Toppers on offense as they scored ten points, but their defense struggled as the Panthers scored nine points, five of which were free throws.
As a team, the Toppers were poor from the line as they made only five out of their 15 attempts. Half of the Panthers points were scored on free throws with eight out of 13 attempts successful.
The leading shooter for the Toppers was Jen Kopacz with 13 points from three deuces, two triples and one free throw.
Scoring the rest of the team points were Morgan Kadinger with ten, Kristie Knops with four, Olivia Weidling and Megan Samens each had three and Rachel Klatt had two.
