Strong work ethic looking to override inexperience

BOYCEVILLE – The Boyceville wrestling team is fully loaded this season as 26 individuals have been added to the roster.
The Bulldogs return seniors Josh Cormican, who placed sixth at the state tournament, and Dominic Olson who was a sectional qualifier last season.
Also returning with experience are Bryor Hellmann, Wyatt Hansen, Sawyer Swenson, Tyler Stroo, Logan McAbee-Thomas, Jon Harnisch and Austin Wolfe.
There are plenty of new faces on the team this year as well including freshman Brock Swenson, Alex Schaeffer, Jack Kapsner, Noah Wyss, Jordan Morse, Robert Bodsberg, Jake Lake and Brandon Windsor.
“We lack experience so we need to grow up fast, but I do like the work ethic this group has shown so far,” shared coach Jamie Olson of his young team.
Olson is entering his 14th year as coach for the Bulldogs along side assistant coaches Corey Day, Evan Palmer and Paul Greene.
The Bulldogs finished with a 2-2 record last season which landed them in third place in the conference.
“Our goal is to compete at a high level in every competition. In order to do that I have to put the best 14 wrestlers on the mat every night. Team unity will be an important factor in our success, along with working hard in the classroom and in the practice room,” said Olson.
Olson believes this season should have a balanced and very competitive conference with St. Croix Central, Spring Valley and Glenwood City being top competitors.
“We have potential. but it will just take time to gain experience with some. We have a tough schedule, which will pay off in the end,” said Olson.
There is currently a handful of weight classes that have multiple individuals of the same weight so there is not a definite roster yet.
