GLENWOOD CITY — Sunshine Community Fitness Center of Turtle Lake has expanded its facility to Glenwood City in the same building as Norm’s Barbershop.
Alissa Sunshine Coomer is the owner of the facility. She grew up in Turtle Lake, but now resides in Clayton with her three children Dustin, Brandy and Sarah.
Coomer first opened her business in March of 2011 in downtown Turtle Lake after she had been waffling for a few years over the idea of having her own workout facility.
The decision became clear after she stumbled upon an online auction that was selling exercise equipment at a price that couldn’t be turned down so she rented a building space and began her first business.
It was then last fall that Coomer came into contact with the owner of the building where Yo Yo’s consignment used to be.
Almost one year later, Coomer has officially bought and renovated the space into a workout facility that has a room with exercise equipment and free weights, a room for classes like yoga and Pilates, and showers and a changing room. The facility will also feature a tanning bed and a massage therapist.
Coomer herself has had advanced life coach training and has earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Holistic Nutrition. She also attended a technical college for business and medical administration. Coomer is also a yoga, Pilates and Zumba instructor and will be offering a variety of classes in town.
Coomer says she is looking for instructors to teach classes in the Glenwood City facility and she will be offering any training that is needed.
The facility will have a 24-hour access key pad for members to use the equipment at their own time preference.
The memberships are monthly with a one year contract costing $35 dollars a month and no contract costing $40 dollars a month with the option of automatic withdrawal from a savings and/or checking account. There is also a one time registration fee of $35 dollars.
There are several insurances that are accepted including HealthPartners and Preferred One; however, Medica is not available.
Anyone interested in becoming a member can stop in and register on Monday, November 12 from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. or November 13-16 from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
The regular staffed hours will be Mondays from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m., or appointments can be made by calling Alissa at 715-641-0168.
