Topper cross country teams place fourth and fifth at conference

MONDOVI – The Glenwood City cross country team competed in Mondovi on Thursday for the Conference meet where the boys’ team placed fifth and the girls’ team placed fourth.
The girls’ team finished without their number one runner, Morgan Kadinger, who collapsed near the finish line and had to carried off due to dehydration. She looks to make a full recovery.
Finishing first for the girls’ was sophomore Kaitlin Konder who placed 13th with a time of 17:43.80 which earned her a second team all-conference honor. Close behind was Jenna Magsam in 15th place with a time of 17:55.72.
Jenny Lindquist finished 22nd (18:27.64), Megan Steinberger in 27th (18:45.53), Maya Petersen in 30th (18:57.76), Hannah Steinberger in 40th (19:33.95) with freshman Ashley Holmquist next in 41st (19:37.62), Mackenzie Wink in 49th (20:24.67) and Camille Olive in 66th (23:40.96).
First place went to Breanna Colbenson of Spring Valley as she finished with a time of 15:19.43.
Second team all-conference honors went to Ethan Brandt for the boys’ team as he finished in ninth place out of 98 runners with a time of 18:11.50.
He was followed by fellow seniors and cousins, Tyler Johnson in 26th (19:30.35) and Michael Johnson in 29th (19:56.03).
Also competing for the team were Derick Huebner in 38th (20:19.60), Jack Kremer in 40th (20:26.62), Andrew Bauman in 57th (21:44.97), Matthew Wink in 79th (23:31.96) and Jared Cupper in 92nd (25:39.46).
“It was a crazy 24 hours. Ethan ran ok for himself, but is still hampered by his shins. The other boys ran well for themselves. As for the girls, the team did great,” said coach Matt Schutz.
The cross country team will compete at Sectionals this coming Saturday, October 20 in Fall Creek.
